When God created human beings, he made them in the likeness of God; he created them male and female. When they were created, he blessed them and named them humankind. (Genesis 5:1-2)
We know men and women have distinct qualities and skills. There are clear differences in strength along with subtle differences in preferences, mannerisms, tendencies, how we process information, etc. We instinctively seek mothers (or other females) in certain instances and fathers (or other males) in other instances. We implicitly acknowledge and accommodate these differences. So, why do so many deny or disregard differences? Does it make us feel better to ignore our natural limitations?
Changing Standards
This social construct theory has evolved during my lifetime. My father experienced it firsthand in the military fifty years ago:
“I had the first two women in jump school,” he tells me without elaborating.
“What happened?”
“Nothing happened. They were tough broads,” he says, using a term that would probably get him in hot water in today’s new army. “But then, they had to be tough to do all the things the guys could do.”
I thought perhaps, he would leave it at that, but this is a sensitive topic, and he cannot remain silent. “But after that beginning, the Army didn’t handle it right. Within a year, they started lowering standards. Women didn’t have to do as many push-ups as the men. They said it’s not fair to make women do the same number of push-ups. Bullshit! If the women can cut it, fine, but the standards are there for a reason. Doesn’t make sense to lower them. Now, they’ve really gone and screwed up the army. And they did the same thing by tinkering with the Military Academy as well. They’ve screwed it up a fare-thee-well after they let in women . . . Makes no sense!”

According to unofficial Army Combat Fitness Test pass/fail records of 3,206 soldiers in 11 battalions, 84% of female trainees and 30% of male trainees failed the six-event Army test.
Our progressive culture cannot countenance five of every six females failing, so the blow has been softened for modern sensibilities. Standards changed so fewer females actually fail. We accommodate feelings first: nobody should feel inferior in any capacity simply because they are a certain sex. We pretend this is compassionate and beneficial to self-esteem, but this compassion falls short as my father noted in another instance:
“And it really isn’t fair either,” he adds. “I’ll give you an example. I had this one kid who came to me . . . he wanted to be an MP, wanted it really badly. But they had a standard for MPs; I think you had to be at least 5-9 and 160 pounds, and he wasn’t big enough. He wanted me to make an exception for him, but I couldn’t do it. But when they let women become MPs, they said we can’t have the same standard for women; that’d be discrimination since most women couldn’t make the cut. So they set a lower standard for women; I think women only had to be 5-5 and maybe 130 pounds. Well, after that this kid wants to know why he can’t become an MP when women smaller than him are becoming MPs. Good question. I really sympathized with him. Makes no sense . . . Makes no sense. . .
Many believe differences between men and women can and should be overcome. However, our differences should be acknowledged and valued, not discounted. There is no need to overcome anything. The sexes are different by design; they are meant to complement each other, not replace each other. The lie we are interchangeable has led to a tangled mess today.
Today, we are fed massive whoppers and then dared to challenge them. When we succumb to pressure, when we accept the lies, when we dispense with reason, there are no limits to how far human nature descends. Ultimately, the truth remains, no matter how unfair: men and women are each naturally better in a variety of aspects of life.
God is Dead?
The LORD God said: It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suited to him. Genesis 2:18
The Bible emphasizes each sex fulfills a distinct divine purpose, but we do not need Genesis to understand this concept. I refer to God’s design because our culture seeks to abolish distinctions and overturn the divine order. Our culture delights in displacing God and proving people of faith wrong: Christians believe in outdated fairy tales, many say. Perhaps God made a mistake? Perhaps we misunderstood God’s will? Perhaps God doesn’t matter at all?
Now the snake was the most cunning* of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He asked the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You shall not eat from any of the trees in the garden’?” Genesis 3:1
Mankind becomes dangerously foolish when we pretend we know best, when we believe we alone can define good and bad, right and wrong. It is a mistake as old as time. You may not understand God’s purpose or prefer not to be restricted by his standards, but life cannot be more confusing, illogical, or disordered than when we allow academics to re-define the basics of life. Ultimately, our culture desires man be superior to God, to eliminate God, and remake his rules. However, when abandoning the one immutable standard (God’s standard), we produce nonsense: men can become women and women can become men because science and progressive thought has overcome this limitation.
We have destroyed taboos and long established boundaries; we explored and experimented rather than avoiding things we have been warned off of for good reason. Unfettered freedom becomes society’s ultimate good. We seek our true selves and become all we believe we were destined to be. The Judeo-Christian notion of sacrifice: for God, others, family, team, nation, humanity, etc. is mocked; yet, the identity so many look for is often found in others or God via sacrifice.

Our sophisticated modern culture has “progressed” even further beyond God. We create new taboos, conventions and standards, more suited for our supposedly enlightened time. We place our hope in utopian political processes or science. Marxism becomes the ultimate theology, a theology which pretends there is no limit on how much we can improve the human condition. There is no limit to humanity’s capacity to delude itself. We believe we can even change human nature itself. After all, we have supplanted God, so why not? We believe we can eradicate racism and other modern scourges, but we cannot end racism or any other sinful activity this side of heaven. Unfortunately, human nature remains as fundamentally flawed as ever.
Unfettered freedom leads to libertinism, not true liberty. Destruction of traditional standards devolves into chaos and anarchy. Traditional wisdom (God’s wisdom) brings us back to these realities once we discover much of modern wisdom is a house built on sand, slapped together all too quickly.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
The Slippery Slope
Per the 1970s Equal Rights Amendment, equality of the sexes was an innocuous sounding notion:
Men and women shall have equal rights throughout the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation
This amendment was ratified by more than thirty states, but never reached the three-fourths threshold needed to amend the Constitution. Nevertheless, our culture gradually adopted ERA principles in any case. The words are pleasant, but then attempts to radically change the culture are always cloaked in non-threatening, empathetic language.
As we grew accustomed to these notions, inhibitions were removed and true intentions became clearer. The last ten years our collective sense of reality has collapsed.
In 2015, a scandal erupted as the Charlotte city council considered allowing males to use female bathrooms:
If a city ordinance is passed at the March 2 Charlotte City Council meeting, any biological male will be permitted to use a women’s public restroom as the new policy would rank “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” higher than biological sex.
Many, perhaps well-intentioned folks, couldn’t see this law would be abused by those only pretending to be transgender; they couldn’t see the threat posed to mothers, wives, and daughters.
New words–homophobia and transphobia–had just entered our lexicon, intended to shame objectors to the new order. I don’t object to the LGBTQ lifestyle because I am fearful. I object because these sexual proclivities are as wrong and as harmful as cheating, lying, adultery, or any other sinful behavior. Objecting doesn’t make me a bigot and doesn’t mean I intend harm to any “communities”. Others can live as they choose with or without my approval; however, I have the right to my standards as much as they have to engage in their preferences.
The Charlotte City Council measure was narrowly defeated, but this defeat was a minor speed bump. A few years later, Minnesota governor Tim Walz signed a law which: “compelled schools to make menstrual products available to transmasculine (trans boys and male-presenting) students”. Walz had many defenders. Media claimed his critics were extreme, wild-eyed Christian nationalists christian-nationalist-straw-man. Minnesota eventually put tampons in boys public high school bathrooms. Is it extremist to simply notice and question the change?
Today, many think it acceptable for males–whether pretending to be females or truly believing they are females–to frequent female bathrooms, to play on girls sports teams, to share jail cells with females, to have federally funded gender altering surgeries, and to be affirmed in their beliefs, legally punishing those who object, no matter how delusional or dishonest their own claims may actually be.
They attempt to overthrow well established standards, some recognized from the beginning of time, and then label us extremists and bigots for questioning their new fangled, poorly thought out replacement standards.
Now our kids are impacted.

Experts believe that by around age 2, children start to recognize gender, and by age 4, most have a stable sense of their gender identity.
Who are the extremists here? Children under four do not have the capacity to make or understand the consequences of life changing decisions that come with fully committing to new gender identities. Yet, government often compels parents to accept the child’s gender choice. Some parents nudge their kids in this direction. Other parents confirm their children’s choices and subject them to life-changing medical treatment: implanting sexual prosthetics, removing healthy body parts, stopping puberty, and more.
The Pushback
In 2022, Matt Walsh of the Daily Wire exposed this practice and successfully lobbied Tennessee to shut down “medical facilities offering “gender affirming” care to minors.
“Gender affirming” surgery is a money maker for medical facilities. Parents often believe they are helping their kids and expanding the boundaries of freedom. Politicians benefit too by “liberating” more victims. Everyone can participate in the victim Olympics, but the kids get the short end. “An act relating to supporting youth,” or Senate Bill 5599, allows host homes for runaway youth “to house youth without parental permission.” Furthermore, the host homes do not need to notify parents about where their kids are or if they are getting medical interventions “if there is a compelling reason not to, which includes a youth seeking protected health services.”
The “protected health care services” included “gender-affirming care,” which for minors arbitrarily included anything prescribed by a doctor to treat dysphoria, the bill obtained by FOX 13 Seattle said.
“Gender affirming treatment can be prescribed to two-spirit, transgender, nonbinary, and other gender diverse individuals,” the bill stated.
For minors, “affirming care” typically included puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries.
These are nonsensical questions we are now facing:
- why can’t anyone use the bathroom of their choice?
- why can’t everyone enjoy the privileges of marriage?
- why can’t a man become a woman?
- why can’t men have periods? Why can’t we put tampons in the boy’s restrooms?
- why can’t children determine their correct sex on their own?
What is the real purpose of sex if not procreation? Our culture has re-defined sex from the ground up. Reasonable folks are labeled hateful for simply addressing these questions. Activists, politicians, and media don’t want these questions answered; they pretend answers provided by this “enlightened” generation, should be obvious to all.

President Trump signed an executive order that seeks to end gender-affirming medical treatments for children and teenagers under the age of 19.
Americans voted for this change. Still, it may take a generation to reverse the damage done to children:

Nearly a third, or 28%, of Gen Z adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer, a larger share than older generations, according to a new report by PRRI, a nonprofit that conducts research on religion, values and public policy.
The pushback has been ineffective to this point because the law and one-channel media have sided with “anything (but Christian values) goes”.
The culture war needs to be fought with more than just a presidential order. Churches and parishioners must ultimately lead the fight. Too many have had blinders on for too long.
First, opportunities were created for women by changing standards to hide clear differences between the sexes. Then women were put at risk for the sake of political ideology as we pretended it’s acceptable for men to invade female spaces. Progressives feigned ignorance when their ideology was challenged. Many, including Supreme Court justices, refused to answer simple questions like: what is a woman? Locales criminalized “misgendering” defining it as “hate speech”. They want no limits to any sexual proclivity or perversion of gender. They usher in sweeping changes and then point fingers at those who notice.

We are harming individuals and damaging the general welfare of future generations and ultimately our nation–all in pursuit of an insane ideology.
Progressives Respond
The exposure of Tennessee’s “gender affirming” practices led to legislation banning sex changes for minors. When regular folks know the whole story, they don’t like it.
Of course, Tennessee’s ban was challenged and the case landed in the U.S. Supreme Court last December.

The case is U.S v. Jonathan Skrmetti. Skrmetti is the Tennessee attorney general and became a party in the case after parents and transgender-rights groups launched a legal challenge to a Tennessee law that bans transgender drugs for minors.
Why allow treatment for minors who don’t fully understand long term consequences and are often coerced to boot? Why even call this “treatment” when kids are irreparably altered? What if we call the practice “mutilation”? Most adults, at least, have the capacity to decide for themselves, but not kids.
Ultimately, what good has “gender affirming” care been for the “trans community” at large given that their very high suicide rate is unchanged after surgery?
During proceedings, the plaintiff admitted there is substantial debate about treatment:

GENERAL PRELOGAR: I, of course, acknowledge, Justice Alito, that there is a lot of debate happening here and abroad about the proper model of delivery of this care and exactly when adolescents should receive it and how to identify the adolescents for whom it would be helpful.
At the same time, she argues deferring to medical authority in certain instances:
But I stand by that there is a consensus that these treatments can be medically necessary for some adolescents, and that’s true no matter what source you look at.
Yet, medical authorities are not in full agreement regarding the supposed benefits of “gender affirming” care. Why appeal only to medical authorities in agreement with your cause?
Plaintiffs also avoid the subjective argument that society is harming its ability to reproduce. How can a nation in which so many are unwilling, often unable, to procreate survive?
Furthermore, they fail to counter the medical argument posed by Justice Alito:
do you dispute the proposition, in fact, that in almost all instances, the judgment at the present time of the health authorities in the United Kingdom and Sweden is that the risks and dangers greatly outweigh the benefits?
They appeal to medical authorities who advocate for surgery, puberty blockers, and other “gender affirming” medications while ignoring legitimate concerns of another large body of medical authorities. Why should these medical authorities be discounted?
At a more basic level: please tell us why gender affirming care isn’t the latest form of medical hackery?
One can always find medical authorities calling for these treatments (or virtually any other). There are always a few unscrupulous folks driven by financial gain or political ideology. Many throughout history have been badly mistaken (craniometry, bloodletting, mercury treatments, lobotomies, etc.).
Plaintiffs fail to show the preponderance of their experts. Again, why are their authorities more credible than the Tennessee legislature’s authorities?
The legislature can deliberately consider conflicting opinions in pursuit of the general welfare. This is our American system. Protecting children’s health (i.e. their general welfare) is the legislature’s role, not the judiciary’s,
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; Article 1, Section 8, U.S. Constitution
The plaintiff objected to the blanket restriction; they insisted certain individuals absolutely require treatment. However, they never explained why treatment is necessary for those individuals, nor how those who may be improperly diagnosed will be protected from being swept along the transgender assembly line. Instead, their primary argument is something else altogether:
Our primary argument is that this statute on its face says you can’t have medications inconsistent with sex. And no matter what you think about transgender discrimination generally, that’s a sex-based line.
It’s no different than saying you can’t dress inconsistent with your sex.
They pervert “providing for general welfare” into “transgender discrimination”. This argument is not cogent. Furthermore, it is oxymoronic to compare banning potentially harmful, life-altering surgery to banning certain types of dress. The surgery ban protects children from physical harm. Furthermore, medications are not banned based on sex, but rather banned based on age, a practice done for other alcohol, firearms, drugs, and more.
Pray for Sanity
The culture must return to sanity and sensible standards abandoned the last fifty years.
The court issues its opinion this summer. Will the legislature be allowed to follow medical authorities making legitimate claims about grave dangers to minors? Will they be permitted to provide for the general welfare which is harmed by these practices?
Will we the people finally recognize the hash we have made by ignoring God and rewriting His laws to suit our newly enlightened and ever-so-progressive culture? It turns out many traditional standards stood so long for good reason. Our culture has failed badly by assuming the role of God.
Will churches take a bigger role in fighting this culture war? Let’s not leave this battle to the president and the courts alone.
