CNN journalist Jake Tapper’s new book, “Original Sin” is sub-titled: “President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
He, his family, and his senior aides were so convinced that only he could beat Trump again, they lied to themselves, allies, and the public about his condition and limitations. At his debate with Trump on June 27, 2024, the consequences of that deception were exposed to the world. It was shocking and upsetting.
Now the full, unsettling truth is being told for the first time. Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson take us behind closed doors and into private conversations between the heaviest of hitters, revealing how big the problem was and how many people knew about it.
Tapper provides a Washington insider’s view of the president’s team’s struggle to keep up appearances, but just days before Biden’s poor debate performance against President Trump, Tapper along with many prominent politicians and journalists were still singing Biden’s praises:
Democrats-sing-praises-of-Biden
- Homeland Secretary Mayorkas said it is difficult to prepare for a meeting with Biden because he is “intensely probing, focused, and detail oriented.”
- Treasury Secretary Yellen said President Biden is “at the top of his game”.
- Attorney General Garland said he “guides staff expertly”. He proclaimed “great confidence” in the president.
- Press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, thirty years Biden’s junior said she “can’t keep up with him,” as well as “he is sharp” and “on top of things”.
- Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi on numerous occasions touted his vision, knowledge, strategic thinking, etc.
- Jill Biden touted his wisdom and experience. “His age is an asset,” she said.
- Majority Leader Schumer said his “mental acuity is great”.
Throughout Biden’s first three-and-a-half years in office, Jake Tapper consistently retaliated against anyone claiming Biden had slipped in any way: nypost-tappers-hypocrisy
In a 2020 interview with Lara Trump, for instance, Tapper accused her of making fun of Biden’s stutter when she pointed out his obvious cognitive slowing.
“I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody’s cognitive decline,” he snapped at her.
Over the course of the interview, he consistently talked over her. As she calmly and sensibly tried to point out that it did indeed appear as though Biden was slowing down, he told her: “You don’t have any standing!”
And in early June 2024, Tapper reported on a Wall Street Journal article titled “Behind Closed Doors, Biden Shows Signs of Slipping,” quoting the White House communications director’s assessment of the piece as a “complete and utter editorial fail” that “makes you wonder who [the Journal is] taking orders from.”

In March 2024, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough who claims to know the president well and to have spoken to him often also defended Biden, saying he was “better than he has ever been intellectually and analytically”. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/daily-memo/2909317/the-best-biden-ever/
In Scarborough’s view, the 81-year-old Biden is not only not declining cognitively, but he’s absolutely the best he’s ever been. And to majorities of voters, both Democrats and Republicans, who believe the president is not up to a second term, Scarborough had a simple message: “F*** you.”
They all lied. They sold more whoppers than Burger King. We suspected their claims at the time and claims have since been disavowed by numerous insiders.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and I do not criticize those who genuinely believed Biden competent, but by 2024 a majority of the American people had already arrived at a different conclusion. To the 68% of the voters who thought President Biden too old, the message was: “F*** you” and “you have no standing” to evaluate. Despite the lies, most Americans could see the obvious truth.

Tapper and Scarborough are insiders who have access to the president and his colleagues. They knew the truth, but it was politically (and financially) expedient to cling to the lie. They were successful enough to convince roughly 32% of the public.
However, after the disastrous Trump/Biden debate in June, their positions became Untenable. They immediately shifted their views, leaving their audience holding the bag. They had lambasted or mocked those of us who held an opposing view regarding Biden, yet our opinions, constructed from a distance, were eventually validated by them. Why would anyone trust these people ever again? Don’t buy their books or listen to any more of their lies. Don’t vote for people who deliberately put the United States at risk by propping up a doddering old man incapable of such a difficult and important job.
The media’s legitimate role is to counter the excesses of our political leaders. They should expose deceptions and reveal hidden truths, but instead these folks join sides and engage in the deception themselves. They seek to make news rather than simply report on it. They are totally corrupt and should be held accountable themselves.
He Wasn’t Ever Up to the Job
It should be apparent now that Biden’s mental decline was managed for a full four years. It was apparent to me in 2020. I couldn’t believe a major political party would support his candidacy. Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Elizabeth Warren and other competitors did not appeal to me, but all were clearly more able than Biden in 2020. Biden struggled in the first two Democrat contests, but the party rallied behind him because they wanted a “moderate” at the top of the ticket; the others were perceived as too radical.

Biden stumbled over his words as he attempted to recite the Declaration of Independence ahead of Super Tuesday in March 2020:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident: All men and women created by — you know, you know, the thing.”
Handlers somehow managed to prop up Biden during the first 2020 presidential debate, pumping him full of who knows what drugs to keep him alert. They were also fortunate a petulant Trump made an unforced error by not allowing Biden to speak more (never interrupt your opponent when he is making a mistake). Handlers also kept him off the campaign trail and away from the press throughout most of 2020. It was their “basement strategy”. Ben Shapiro frequently said: they locked him up in Delaware, allowing him to watch re-runs of “Matlock” on loop.

Praise no one before he speaks, for it is then that people are tested. Sirach 27:7
There were many suspect practices “fortifying” the 2020 election for Biden (https://townhall.com/tipsheet/mattvespa/2021/02/05/time-magazine-uses-interesting-word-to-explain-how-2020-election-was-pretty-much-n2584276 ), still the basement strategy was effective–effective and corrupt. As Nancy Pelosi explained in 2019, millions of Democrats would vote for whomever the party ran in November: “But those are districts that are solidly Democratic. This glass of water would win with a D next to its name in those districts.” So party loyalty and incessant claims of Biden being sharp as ever convinced just enough voters to carry Biden over the finish line.
It is appalling this strategy worked. It proves our political parties are good at one thing: getting their candidates elected, even people totally unqualified for the job. They are not so good at running the country or solving problems, but they can market their candidates.
After President Biden was elected, his handlers hid his cognitive troubles just enough for his party to survive the mid-term elections, and then brought him to the brink of re-nomination. Still, it was ugly and embarrassing for our nation.

Biden cheat sheet shows he had advance knowledge of journalist’s question (nypost.com)
A cheat sheet held by President Biden during a Wednesday press conference revealed that the 80-year-old commander-in-chief had advance knowledge of a question from a journalist.
Are you kidding me?

We often heard about “putting a lid” on activities early in the day. President Biden’s work days were relatively short. biden-campaign-lid-trump-mocks
“Did you see he did a ‘lid’ this morning again?” Trump asked Thursday evening in Jacksonville, Fla., pausing to offer a definition for the inside-baseball term. “A lid is when you put out word you’re not going to be campaigning today. So, he does a lid all the time.”

We also saw President Biden nodding off at important events, falling frequently, wandering off when guides turned away for a moment, being lost or rambling during responses. We heard him say: “I’m not supposed to be answering all these questions.” He was shuffled out of press conferences by staff as if he were not actually in charge.
Staff shrugged off gaffes and missteps: he is tired; he has a difficult job; everyone forgets from time to time; etc.. Were we supposed to believe them or our own lying eyes?
Special Counsel, Robert Hur, interviewed President Biden in 2023 during an inquiry into Biden’s mishandling of classified documents prior to his presidency. Biden dodged a bullet by not being charged, but Mr. Hur’s reasoning was possibly more damning to the president.

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory. Based on our direct interactions with and observations of him, he is someone for whom many jurors will want to identify reasonable doubt. It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him — by then a former president well into his eighties — of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”
These words should have shocked nobody. Voters doubted Biden’s capability by 2024. A few pretended (or truly believed) Biden was fit while the rest either admitted he wasn’t or didn’t care. Disparaging the 68% of voters who doubted the “best Biden ever” claim was a poor strategy.
The debate with Trump on June 27, 2024, finally sunk Biden completely. His defenders’ lies were exposed; rats jumped from the Biden ship to protect their own reputations.
abcnews-stark-contrast-biden-trump
“Biden set up a debate on his terms, on his home field, and he utterly and totally failed in the most spectacular failure in presidential debate history. He failed. Now, there’s no way he can win. So yeah, we’ve got to do this,” the informal adviser [Karen Finney] said of the push to get Biden to remove himself from the 2024 ticket.
Even before this enlightening debate, many Democrat leaders knew Biden’s re-election was dubious. They hoped he would stick to his promise to be a one-term, transitional president. They realized they had been extraordinarily lucky to have not been completely exposed already. Still, they remained silent publicly, hoping the old magic would work a second time and they could fool enough voters.
The debate was held months earlier than normal, ostensibly so Democrats could evaluate the president’s re-election chances and find a substitute if he stumbled. If he had just somehow made it through: perhaps, with someone talking in his ear, or with a friendly journalist asking softball questions, or with questions shared early with the campaign. If they could have only sheltered him for the rest of the campaign and harped Trump’s problems. It was all so close to being pulled off again. Before the June debate, Biden actually had a lead in the head-to-head polling versus Trump.

Their motto was apparently party before country. Biden’s presidency should not have been allowed to continue four years. It should ended after his debate performance, after everyone acknowledged his obvious mental decline, and after he pulled out of the race.
Republicans repeatedly highlighted Biden’s obvious mental deficiencies for four years, but Democrats and loyal media steadfastly supported him, whistling past the graveyard, still trying to convince voters the 82-year-old Biden was as good as ever. The plan must have been for Biden to step aside after somehow securing the White House via another basement campaign.
President Biden was unlikely to win after his poor debate performance. He had demonstrated he was not as good as ever and likely hadn’t been for many years. VP Kamala Harris was a better choice–she was a sentient being, not someone half dead. Anyone would have been a better choice at this point. This should have been obvious the year before. Harris ultimately lost the race, a race Biden for months following said he could have won. I believe it would have been far worse for Democrats had Biden remained.
Jake Tapper, the hard-hitting undercover journalist who now wants to show us the behind the scenes in the White House, shifted on a dime along with many others:
“Many Democrats with whom I’ve spoken are worried that President Biden and his family and his inner circle appear to be in complete denial, not just what about what might be wrong with him, but the state of his candidacy right now.”
These are the words of Jake Tapper, liberal journalist who for years defended Biden and repeatedly called out doubters. Just days before June 27, Mr. Tapper said President Biden was doing a super-duper, bang-up job. He said the Wall Street Journal’s criticism of Biden in June 2024 was “a complete and utter editorial fail”. A month later, he joined the conga line highlighting Biden’s cognitive failures. How much more obvious can the corruption be?

Easter-bunny-directs-a-confused-Joe-Biden
Biden has left the limelight forever, so it is acceptable to say these things (and earn a few bucks along the way). Mr. Tapper now gives us 300-pages of hard hitting undercover news, cashing in on insider knowledge of Biden’s meltdown and the cover-up of which he himself was an active participant.
This is what corruption looks like.
Five Years Later
Now that Biden has left office, it is reported he didn’t even sign documents. It is problematic that executive orders and Congressional legislation can be signed and implemented when someone other than the president steps acts as his proxy. Who exactly was in charge for four years? How aware of events was he? Was he a figurehead only or was he able to make a few decisions each day?
Five years later, I am outraged his handlers and party officials were able to perpetuate the lie, keeping in office a man who should have been enjoying his retirement with breakfasts at Denny’s and visiting his grandchildren. Certainly his wife, his doctors, and likely many of his family members knew his true condition. They should have prevented him from running or, once elected, from continuing to serve.
This situation should never have been allowed to continue. The 25th amendment allows a president to be removed (not impeached) temporarily or permanently if “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office”. This amendment was mentioned continually while Trump was president, but was actually more applicable to President Biden who was in the early stages of dementia while in office. It seems, VP Harris and others calculated it was too risky to their re-election chances to raise this specter. Again, corruption prevails.
Donald Trump today is exactly the same age as Joe Biden was when he entered office. Love him or hate him, we need to all at least acknowledge he is far more vital, far more active, and far more mentally aware than President Biden was during his term.
Trump-answered-seven-times-more-questions-than-Biden-in-first-month
Trump has answered more than 1,000 press questions in the first month of his second term—seven times more than Biden “answered” in the same period. At least we know who is actually in charge in this moment.

There numerous examples of government and media corruption remaining. For instance, the Jeffrey Epstein files must finally be released and those being protected exposed. DOGE spending cuts are good (although cuts are just a drop in a never-ending bucket so far), but more importantly we must make government accountable and end corrupt practices golden-hammer-or-constitutional-crisis. Like an alcoholic, we must first expose the problems, and then solutions can follow.
